125 Millennium - Eighteenth Edition EDUCATION Inspired by his family’s history of military service, Dr. Scott Alfred Fredrickson joined the United States Air Force in 1970, serving as an aircraft mechanic for four years. He then joined the U.S. Army Military Police, where he remained until 1979. While in the military police, he graduated from the University of Nebraska Omaha with a Bachelor of Science in criminal justice. Through the 1980s he continued to work in law enforcement, spending three years as a deputy sheriff with the Lubbock Sheriff’s Department. Dr. Fredrickson transitioned into education at the K-12 level in 1981 as a teacher for the Lubbock Independent School District. He continued his academic career at Texas Tech University, where he earned a Master of Education in 1983 and a Doctor of Philosophy in 1989. After completing his doctoral studies, he became an assistant professor at the University of Alaska Southeast and a full professor at the University of Nebraska Kearney in 1992. In 2020, the University of Nebraska Kearney granted him professor emeritus status. As a testament to Dr. Fredrickson’s dedication and work ethic, the University of Nebraska Omaha dedicated a room to him upon his retirement in 2020. He is the author of 21 national and international peerreviewed publications, a contributor to 13 textbooks, and the author of 27 professional publications. In addition, he has delivered 51 national and international presentations and received multiple grants for his work. Following his retirement, Dr. Frederickson and his wife have dedicated their energy to turtle conservation efforts in Florida. They are in the initial stages of ensuring that newly hatched turtles can pass from their nests to the ocean unobstructed. While they are still undergoing training for these efforts, he finds the experience of witnessing hundreds of baby turtles making their way to the water at night to be both rewarding and meaningful.
