130 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine EDUCATION As an educator, Dr. McNabb teaches strategies for effective written and oral scientific communication, in addition to his work conducting research on disease control and creating a new concept for modernizing public health surveillance in the United States using artificial intelligence. He began his own education at the University of Oklahoma, graduating with a BS in zoology in 1972. He then earned an MS in microbiology and immunology at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center in 1979, followed by completing a predoctoral fellowship with the university in conjunction with the National Institutes of Health. In 1986, he received a PhD in microbiology and immunology from the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine. In the coming years, Dr. McNabb aims to secure funding for proposed disease detection pilot projects by collaborating with existing agencies, including the Council of State and Territorial Epidemiologists, the Association of Territorial Health Officers, the CDC and the WHO. Dr. Scott J.N. McNabb is an innovative scientist and educator in public health. He currently teaches at Columbia University and the University of Georgia School of Public Health, and he is an adjunct professor at Emory University and King Saud bin Abdulaziz University for Health Sciences. In addition to his work as an educator, he has served as a managing partner of Public Health Practice LLC since 2010. Dr. McNabb is the former associate director of science for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and is well-regarded for his work in public health. He considers his most important achievement to be the implementation of the Integrated Disease Surveillance and Response (IDSR), a groundbreaking approach to public health surveillance. Introduced in 2001, the program focuses on disease detection based on function rather than isolated cases to better identify outbreaks of diseases, such as tuberculosis or measles. Dr. McNabb was key in deploying this approach throughout the World Health Organization (WHO) African Region, creating a new standard for disease surveillance. SCOTT J.N.
