144 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine EDUCATION For 54 years, Dr. Leroy F. Searle has been a scholar and educator focusing on intellectual history and the history of literary criticism. He holds a BA in English from Utah State University and an MA in English from The University of Iowa. He began teaching in 1970 after completing a PhD in English at The University of Iowa. He began his career as an assistant professor of English at the University of Rochester, where he would remain for the next seven years. In 1977, he joined the University of Washington as a professor of English, where he taught until being granted professor emeritus status in 2018. Moving forward, Dr. Searle is concentrating on rebuilding the instrumentation for a British brass band. In addition, he is working on a book of new and collected essays. He has been published extensively in scholarly journals and contributed to major texts in his field including “Critical Theory Since 1965” and the third edition of “Critical Theory since Plato.” PROFESSOR EMERITUS OF ENGLISH AND COMPARATIVE LITERATURE University of Washington Seattle, WA Tyrone E. Wise II leverages over 15 years of expertise in academic administration and student life in his role as the assistant director of boost@BerkeleyHaas. The only four-year, cohort-based readiness program of its kind in the country, boost@BerkeleyHaas helps high school students develop academic and leadership skills and meet high school graduation benchmarks and higher education matriculation with 98% efficiency. Before accepting his current role in 2023, Mr. Wise was the associate director of student life and leadership development for the Haas School of Business MBA program. Throughout his time at the University of California, Berkeley, Mr. Wise has pioneered diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives. To wit, he has overseen an anti-racism challenge, the school’s first virtual Black History Month events, and the virtual Black History Museum. Furthermore, he has served as the chair of the Berkeley Black Staff and Faculty Organization. Mr. Wise previously cultivated his own higher education, earning an MEd at the University of the Pacific. Looking ahead, he hopes to become the vice president of student affairs and continue to foster community and create opportunities for student empowerment through mentoring and active leadership.
