160 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine ENERGY, ENGINEERING AND MANUFACTURING Thomas B. Silliman began working for Electronics Research Inc. at the age of 16. As he developed his professional career, he took over more executive responsibility and eventually acquired the company from its founder, his father, becoming the president and chief executive officer. He holds a BEE and an MEE from Cornell University and, in addition to his academic credentials, is a registered professional engineer. At the onset of his career, Mr. Silliman contributed to a research and design project to create an antenna for nine class CFM stations in Houston, Texas. The prototype antenna was placed on the Shell Building’s senior road tower, where he and his father conducted proof-of-performance tests using directional couplers obtained from the industry-leading Byrd Electronics Corporation. In 1975, he created an FM antenna that remains in use as the industry standard design. Continuing his ingenious engineering feats, in 2019, he used his own “n minus one over n” array theory on the Empire State Building, locating the antenna 100 feet closer to the deck. In light of this accomplishment, the local courier and press paper in the tri-state featured Mr. Silliman and Electronics Research Inc. in an article, documenting his success. For his contributions to the field of engineering, Mr. Silliman received the E. Jules Cohen Award from the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Broadcast Technology Society in 2015. Furthermore, the National Association of Broadcasters presented him with the Radio Engineering Achievement Award in 2008. He is a fellow with IEE and a board member of the Association of Federal Communications Consulting Engineers. Mr. Silliman remains passionate about his work and the industry, and he plans to continue leading Electronics Research Inc. for many years. He is proud of his reputation for honesty and integrity and credits his success to his ability to build fruitful relationships. Millennium Magazine Featured Listee THOMAS B.
