170 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine ENTREPRENEURS CARL GILBERT BEHNKE OWNER REB Enterprises Seattle, WA Renowned philanthropist and businessman Carl Gilbert Behnke celebrates a successful career lasting over five decades. Throughout his career, Mr. Behnke has worked with industry leaders such as PepsiCo Inc. as well as his independent venture, REB Enterprises. He prides himself on his ability to attentively listen to others and invest in significant causes, such as the Fred H. Cancer Research Center. Raised by a family deeply rooted in giving, philanthropy and advocacy for change have become integral parts of his identity. This upbringing shaped his steadfast commitment to humanitarian efforts, and he strives to carry on his family’s legacy. After graduating from Princeton University with a bachelor’s degree in history in 1967, Mr. Behnke joined the United States Navy and served in the Vietnam War as an officer on a destroyer. After leaving the military, he attended Harvard Business School, earning a Master of Business Administration in 1973. Once he completed his education, he returned to his hometown, Seattle, Washington, in 1984 and joined Alpac Corp., then the second-largest Pepsi distributor in the country. By the time he departed from the company in 1993, he had risen to an executive position, leading the PepsiCo distribution business. In 1994, Mr. Behnke created REB Enterprises, a family company. Outside his entrepreneurial ventures, he remains active in charitable projects and is proud to have worked on a major capital campaign for the Fred Hutch Cancer Research Center. He first began supporting the organization as an advisory board member and continues to hold board leadership roles. In addition to the Fred Hutch Cancer Research Center, Mr. Behnke is chair of the Pacific Northwest Ballet and a volunteer for ArtsFund, a Seattle-based organization that has distributed more than $100 million in grant monies to community arts initiatives since its inception. The Behnke family has been deeply involved in the Seattle community for decades, and Mr. Behnke is proud to bear this legacy into the 21st century.
