54 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine ARTS, MEDIA AND ENTERTAINMENT Robert Anthony Martinez became involved in music at a formative age, apprenticing with a former Rockettes dancer. Since 1989, he has excelled as a professor of music at Bakersfield College, where he focuses on guiding students in jazz, chamber and opera orchestra, and concert and marching bands. Among his other significant career accomplishments, Mr. Martinez is proud to have directed the United World Peace Orchestra, a collection of talented musicians from both the San Diego Symphony and the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Their performances include 12 concerts in total, featuring notable performers such as Jennifer Jones from the Met, Allan Paul from the Manhattan Transfer, and Ben Jonson. After attending San Bernardino Valley Community College and earning a BA in music education in 1972, Mr. Martinez subsequently graduated from San Diego State University with an MA in music composition. Since then, he has composed multiple works for the Bakersfield Symphony Orchestra, including his pieces titled “Clay Will” and “Divinity.” Adjacent to his primary vocational endeavors, Mr. Martinez is wellregarded for his civic-minded efforts, regularly engaging with communities to provide pro bono work in teaching others who are looking to develop their own ensembles. To commemorate his accomplishments, he has been honored with numerous accolades, including The Beautiful Bakersfield Award (for Arts and Humanities) in 1992. Likewise, he is a member of the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers, the American Society of Music Arrangers and Composers, and The National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences. In the coming years, Mr. Martinez looks forward to retiring, though he hopes to remain active in his role as a teacher in some capacity.
