After graduating from Sojourner-Douglass College with a BA in administration and management, he brought his experience to the University of Maryland Fire and Rescue Institute, where he was a faculty member between 1999 and 2000. He later returned to Sojourner-Douglass College to continue his education, earning an MPA in public administration. Since 1964, Mr. Spencer has excelled in the visual, vocal and performing arts; his first solo album, “Person to Person,” debuted in 1987. He is also the founder of Enrapture Records and A. J. Spencer Consultants LLC. As a musician and recording artist, he has appeared alongside various artists, including Jimmy Smith Trio, Smokey Robinson & the Miracles, The Soul Stirrers, The Dixie Hummingbirds, The Mighty Clouds of Joy, James Cleveland, Shirley Caesar, War, and Raheem DeVaughn. Furthermore, Mr. Spencer is a professional vocalist for Sunset Band. Since 2016, he has presented as a visual artist in over 30 exhibitions. Ever committed to civic advocacy on behalf of his community and fellow artists, Mr. Spencer is heavily involved with the Arts Council of Anne Arundel County and the Maryland Commission on African American History and Culture. He represented the mayor locally, regionally, and nationally for eight years and is proud to have served as the director of youth community development for the city of Annapolis. Wellregarded for his accomplishments as a singer and artist, Mr. Spencer’s gospel and R&B music has reached five continents. However, he considers his family to be his proudest achievement. In the coming years, he hopes to see his visual art presented on fabric, clothing, drapes, carpets and more. A t the onset of his vocational journey, Anthony J. “Tony” Spencer joined the United States Marine Corps, honorably serving among the presidential honor guard in Washington, DC, in 1972.
