Dowdy began her career in human services administration as a student at the Elon University Martha and Spencer Love School of Business, where she graduated in 1997 with a BS in accounting and business administration. She continued her education as a mid-career professional, earning an MBA at Mercer University in 2006 and an MDiv from Campbell University in 2007. Dr. Dowdy completed a second Master of Business Administration from Florida A&M University in 2013 and was awarded a PhD in educational leadership by the school in 2021. Throughout her career, Dr. Dowdy has served in various administrative and executive positions, including as an office manager, accountant and budget analyst. In 2007, she joined the staff of Florida A&M University as a project manager, rising to become director of the office of operations analysis by the time of her departure in 2013. In recognition of her academic and professional excellence, Dr. Dowdy was a member of the Florida A&M University chapter of the Golden Key International Honor Society. For the next five years, she served as executive director of institutional effectiveness at Edward Waters College, where she continued to cement her reputation for leadership excellence. Since 2018, Dr. Dowdy has been the president and chief executive officer of River Region Human Services Inc., overseeing a staff of over 100 and collaborating with community partners to execute the company’s mission to offer clients transitional housing support, treatment for behavioral health, substance use disorders, and HIV/AIDS, and create pathways to care for pregnant and postpartum enrollees. Dr. Dowdy is passionate about expanding wellness initiatives for women, especially women of color, and is a member of the Jacksonville Women’s Network and the Women of Color Cultural Foundation. Among other events, she has spoken at the Florida Black Caucus, the National Association of Historically Black Colleges and Universities Title III Administrators Workshop, and the Florida A&M University School of Business and Industry, where she delivered a keynote speech. In the future, Dr. Dowdy hopes to return to working with universities, aspiring to the position of university president. JACQUELINE D.
