323 Millennium - Eighteenth Edition LAW AND LAW ENFORCEMENT As a young child, Stephanie D. Hill was inspired by her mother’s helpfulness and her uncles’ police work and military service. Drawn to the field of criminal justice, she subsequently pursued a higher education at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, where she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in 1995. Since 2016, Ms. Hill has served as the executive director of public safety and chief of police at Central State University. In this capacity, she is proud to have cultivated a culture of transparency and fostered strong relationships of trust with students. Ms. Hill views her position as the police chief at Central State University as a major achievement. Within the university’s police department, she has gone above and beyond to cater to the community’s needs by setting up a food and hygiene pantry and improving bonds with the school’s minority communities. She treasures these initiatives and their influence in fostering community involvement and averting conflict. Outside of her primary position and professional endeavors at Central State University, Ms. Hill is a member of the board of directors for the university’s Campus Safety Magazine and a liaison to the president’s office. Furthermore, she is a member of the Strategic Ohio Council for Higher Education and the Ohio Association of Chiefs of Police. Moving forward, Ms. Hill plans to retire as the chief of police and focus on her role as executive director of public safety at Central State University — she is notably working toward increasing diversity in law enforcement by increasing minority officer recruitment. With the university’s support, she intends to establish a police academy, and she is committed to ensuring that this institution promotes fairness and safety for all.
