He began his career as a hospital pharmacist, a role he maintained for 10 years. Dr. Carter is highly educated in his field. He attended the University of Missouri, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in pharmaceutical sciences in 1979 and a Doctor of Pharmacy in applied clinical pharmacology in 2002. In addition to his career as a pharmacist, he taught at the University of Missouri-Kansas City as an adjunct professor. In light of his fulfilling career, Dr. Carter considers his most notable achievements to be his positive influence on the insulin diabetes market in 2018 and 2019 and being honored with the title Pharmacy Alumnus of the Year in 2004. Likewise, he is proud to have received the Outstanding Career Achievement Award from the University of Missouri in 2019. Well-regarded for his scholarly output as well, Dr. Carter has published numerous works in his field, including “Understanding the Players in the Rising Costs of Insulin,” “Biosimilar Insulin, Reflection or Mirage?” and “What Do Healthcare Professionals and People With Diabetes Know About Insulin Transport and Storage? A Multinational Survey.” He has presented his research at many national symposiums, including Dealing with the Rising Costs of Insulin-An Active Dialogue Symposium. In the coming years, Dr. Carter plans to enjoy his semi-retirement and hopes to become further involved in charitable efforts. I n the pharmacy industry, Dr. Alan W. Carter provides valuable consulting services. Since 2021, he has consulted through his independent firm, Alan Carter Consulting LLC, where he offers business information on the global medication trade to pharmacies, health care providers and insurance companies.
