In 2008, he founded Haseltine Global Health, where he serves as a biomedical scientist, and ACCESS Health International, of which he is the chief executive officer. Over the course of his career, he has founded over a dozen biotechnology companies, including Human Genome Sciences Inc., and educated generations of doctors as a professor at Harvard University. In addition to his research work, Dr. Haseltine has published over 200 peer-reviewed manuscripts and 11 books. Two of his recent books, “A Family Guide to Covid” and “A Covid Back to School Guide,” provide information on COVID-19, which he is actively researching. His most recent book, his autobiography, “My Lifelong Fight Against Disease: From Polio and AIDS to COVID-19,” was published in 2020. Dr. William A. Haseltine has enjoyed a long and distinguished career in medical research and education. Inspired by his mother’s struggle with illness and his own health journey, he pursued a career in science hoping to help find solutions for common diseases. He attended the University of California, Berkeley, graduating in 1966 with a BA in physical chemistry and later received a PhD in biophysics from Harvard University. Recognizing the threat of HIV early after cases began to appear, Dr. Haseltine worked to combat the medical and social effects of the disease, raising awareness and contributing to the development of the first effective treatments for HIV/AIDS. As both a scientist and a social activist, he played a crucial role in establishing amfAR, an organization that supports AIDS research. He collaborated with high-profile figures such as Princess Diana, Elizabeth Taylor and members of the United States Senate to increase the supplemental budget for AIDS research, raising it from one million to almost 400 million.
