Danberg’s family roots in Martha’s Vineyard Island run deep; it is where she grew up and spent her formative years. She credits her island upbringing with teaching her the importance of independence and fortitude, which have allowed her to tackle anything with confidence and a sense of adventure. Whether sailing her beloved catboat Crepidula—with which she started a new boat class—rowing in the Women’s Masters International crew races in Montreal, securing a boat at its mooring during the “eye” of a hurricane, teaching at the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, or flying her single-engine plane around New England, she is equally at home. Since 2004, Ms. Danberg has operated as an alderman and now city councilor for the City of Newton, Massachusetts, where she is currently in her 11th term. As a councilor-at-large for the city, she has prioritized implementing environmentally friendly policies, expanding affordable housing options, improving infrastructure and ensuring the public safety of all residents. Ms. Danberg has also focused on the historic preservation of Newton and the promotion of arts, culture and quality education. She notably supported successfully raising the age at which Newton’s young residents could purchase tobacco products, regulating and limiting access to the purchase of firearms, and banning single-use plastics. Ms. Danberg is especially proud of her dedication to advocating for affordable housing and the general betterment of her community. In 2024, she was honored with the Sheila Mondshein Fair Housing Award for leadership in supporting and creating affordable housing. Additionally, she chairs the Newton Plastics Reduction Working Group and the Newton City Council’s Real Property Reuse Committee— which is responsible for acquiring and disposing of city land and buildings. She has also served Governor Maura Healey’s Finance Committee and in leadership roles for long range planning, public safety and zoning. Prior to her position on the Newton City Council and after teaching in the foreign language department at Brookline High School and in Bogota, Colombia, Ms. Danberg accrued
