Looking to the future, Dr. Fukushima strives to reduce the stigma associated with receiving psychiatric care and living with behavioral health conditions. In addition to the services she offers to adult patients, she is interested in broadening her practice to include adolescents. As a part of her commitment to continuing education, she recently trained in a therapeutic modality for depression that the United States Food and Drug Administration has approved for those aged 15 to 17. Outside of her career, she enjoys serving her community, playing soccer in both coed and women's leagues, and frequently volunteers with charity organizations. Dr. Doreen Fukushima has dedicated her career as a psychiatrist to providing comprehensive mental health care to adult patients. In 2019, after many years of working as a Locum Tenens traveling psychiatrist and qualified medical evaluator for the California Division of Workers’ Compensation Medical Unit, she established her own medical practice, Ho'ola Pono LLC. Despite early challenges in building a steady patient population amidst COVID-19-related shutdowns, she maintained in-person appointments to ensure that her patients received effective, continuous care. Since then, the practice continued to gain patients and accolades, surpassing its previous success and earning her the title of Top Psychiatrist in Hawaii for 2024. Dr. Fukushima pursued a higher education at the University of Hawai'i at Manoa, receiving an MD from the university’s John A. Burns School of Medicine. She went on to complete a residency within the University of Hawai'i Psychiatry Residency Program.
