102 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine HEALTH AND WELLNESS Dr. R. Michael Hooda is a proven leader in the health care industry. As the head of palliative medicine at Piedmont Healthcare — one of the largest physician-owned multi-specialty groups in the Southeast — he provides consultations for patients with terminal illnesses. Likewise, he ensures effective pain management, end-of-life care and hospice referrals, and operates a private outpatient palliative care program, delivering treatment to patients in their homes and providing telehealth services. In addition, he has served as an assistant clinical professor of medicine at the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University since 2019. Prior to beginning his medical career, Dr. Hooda received a BA in chemistry from Emory University before attending the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University, where he earned an MD. In 2005, he completed a residency at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and joined the center’s clinical faculty in the Department of Internal Medicine. He later returned to school, achieving an MBA at the University of Georgia Terry College of Business in 2023. Reflecting on his career, Dr. Hooda considers his most significant accomplishment to be launching Open Door Rx Inc., a pharmacy that pioneered free same-day delivery services in Hawaii. He created the company in 2013 and served as the chief medical officer for four years before leaving to join Encompass Health as the associate medical director, a position he maintained from 2018 to 2020. In the coming years, Dr. Hooda aspires to complete law school and increase his participation in health care policy, specifically focusing on end-of-life care. He has observed a significant potential for implementing smart policies in this area to improve the quality of care and is devoted to seeing these policies to fruition.
