Well-versed in his field, Dr. Maxwell studied psychology at McGill University before continuing his studies at the University of Michigan, where he achieved both a BS and an MD. Dr. Maxwell completed an internship at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine and went on to a residency in psychiatry and a fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry through Harvard Medical School and the Boston Children’s Hospital. He began practicing in 2001 as a child and adolescent psychiatrist at Maine Medical Center and was affiliated with Natchaug Hospital and the University of Alabama at Birmingham through the mid-2000s. He entered private practice in 2007 with an emphasis on treating mood and anxiety disorders as well as bipolar disorder. In addition to his private practice, Dr. Maxwell continued to consult with various medical centers and group practices, seeing patients at Martha’s Vineyard Community Services from 2009 until 2020, consulting at Towson University, and serving as a provider and medical director at the Fairwinds Nantucket Counseling Center since 2014. Under his guidance, the Fairwinds Nantucket Counseling Center grew from a single provider to a staff of four, and he looks forward to continuing to expand its services. As a veteran in his specialty, Dr. Maxwell has received accolades from the National Institute of Mental Health. He is currently developing a podcast for parents of children with mental health care needs. Dr. Dominic John Maxwell is a boardcertified clinical psychiatrist with over 20 years of experience to his credit. He operates his own private practice, which specializes in working with adolescent and young adult patients.
