125 Millennium - Nineteenth Edition LAW AND LAW ENFORCEMENT For more than 35 years, Kent J. Gebert, Esq., has practiced law with an emphasis on criminal and family law, civil litigation, and representation of parties who cannot afford counsel. Since 2015, he has maintained his own independent practice as Kent J. Gebert, Attorney at Law. Furthermore, he continues to work in public service, including one year working for the Montgomery County Public Defender’s Office in 2022. Mr. Gebert began his career as an associate of Parshall and West and an assistant district attorney for Schoharie County, New York. He spent two years as an associate of Pentak, Brown, and Tobin before launching his own practice in 1991. Over the next 15 years, he focused on building and managing his practice, and in the mid-2000s, he returned to public defense work. Between 2007 and 2014, he served as an attorney and later the assistant chief public defender for the County of Schenectady, departing to spend a year as counsel to the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance. As part of his vocational journey, Mr. Gebert also cultivated a formal education. To wit, he holds a BA in philosophy from Siena College and initially explored a range of postgraduate education options and career opportunities in diverse fields before settling on his path in law. Despite being raised by a family with a lengthy legacy in the field of medicine, he decided to pursue law, ultimately achieving a JD at the University of Illinois Chicago School of Law in 1987. Mr. Gebert credits his success to his perseverance and determination. Accounting for his accomplishments, he is proud to have created a longterm foundation of financial stability through law.
