Despite never attaining a formal degree, he has found a wealth of success, thanks to the support he received as a young professional. Today, Mr. Lockwood boasts more than 30 years of industry expertise, with some of his most noteworthy accomplishments including his work as the owner and lead architect of Lockwood Architects. In his leadership roles, Mr. Lockwood mentors junior architects, teaching them traditional sketching techniques to aid in visualizing designs. Furthermore, he provides guidance on problem-solving and critical thinking skills that serve an architect beyond what can be generated by a computer. As an architect, he is an expert in large-scale facility design, primarily working on projects for health care and correctional facilities. His contribution to the Los Angeles County Jail project involved creating one of the largest jail facilities in Los Angeles, with a focus on both security and functionality. Notably, he served as the architect of record for the remodel of LAC+USC Medical Center (now the Los Angeles General Medical Center), placing a strong emphasis on patient care and operational efficiency. Mr. Lockwood considers the highlight of his career to be witnessing the success and professional growth of those he has mentored. Based on his personal experience, he believes mentoring plays a crucial role in guiding aspiring professionals through the intricacies of the industry. He takes great pride in the strong connections he has established with his mentees, providing them with support and direction. In the coming years, Mr. Lockwood plans to officially retire, though he is also contemplating engaging in part-time work to keep his mind and skills sharp. He hopes to continue teaching and providing support to young professionals in his field. Outside of his career, he is passionate about restoring vintage automobiles, particularly classic sports cars, and he looks forward to devoting more time to this hobby.
