146 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine SCIENCES, PHARMACEUTICALS AND BIOTECHNOLOGY Dr. Cynthia M. Galloway is a botanist and professor at Texas A&M University-Kingsville, where she has been an esteemed member of the biology department faculty for nearly 35 years. A graduate of California Polytechnic State University, she holds a BS in botany and an MS in biology. In 1987, she achieved a PhD in botany and plant sciences from the University of California Riverside, and she pursued postdoctoral study at the University of Georgia through 1988. Early in her career, Dr. Galloway operated as a researcher and research associate for the Hawaiian Sugar Planters’ Association. She began teaching in 1989 as an assistant professor at Winston-Salem State University and joined the faculty at Texas A&M University-Kingsville in 1990, rising to associate professor of biology in 1994 and full professor in 2000. Throughout her career, she has consulted and worked with other institutions, including work as a molecular biology consultant and visiting assistant professor at the Georgia Institute of Technology. Dr. Galloway’s research specialties include moss taxonomy and physiology, and she is known for her fieldwork in moss distribution records and application tolerance. She has published extensively, including contributions to books, journal articles, and an encyclopedia. Dr. Galloway is a former president of the Southern section of the American Association of Plant Physiology, which honored her with their 2002 Distinguished Service Award for her contributions. Dr. Galloway credits her accomplishments to her tenacity and the support of peers in her field and colleagues at Texas A&M University-Kingsville. To wit, she considers the success of the graduate students she has mentored to be her greatest achievement. Currently, she is working on a project aimed at improving the drought resistance of crop plants using genetic transfer from mosses. CYNTHIA M.
