Millennium Magazine_19 Ed

21 Millennium - Nineteenth Edition stretching 340 feet long, this impressive mural celebrates multiculturalism and has become a significant artistic landmark in the city. For his accomplishments, he received both the President’s Volunteer Service Award and the Top 40 Black Professionals and Entrepreneurs Award in 2024. Before establishing the Bydee Art Gallery, Mr. Joseph gained valuable experience working in municipal administration for the City of Austin, where he focused on managing public event facilities. Despite his success, he recognized that the bureaucratic environment did not align with his personal aspirations. Drawing on his background in urban studies, he transitioned to fine arts, using his skills to inform his creative projects and engage with the community. In 1986, Mr. Joseph introduced the concept of “Bydee people,” which stands for “Bringing You Delightful Entertaining Experiences.” This concept was developed to foster positivity, diversity and friendly relationships among individuals. It also serves as an imaginative utopia that promotes delightful and entertaining experiences through art and storytelling. Over time, the concept has evolved into a range of creative works. To share the philosophy of the “Bydee people” with a broader audience, he authored books such as “Color Me Bydee,” “Words of Bydee” and “People Come in All Colors.” Mr. Joseph holds a Bachelor of Arts in sociology and anthropology from Tougaloo College and a Master of Arts in urban studies from Trinity University. He hopes to establish a foundation and museum dedicated to preserving and promoting the cultural and artistic legacy of the “Bydee” ethos. He plans to create a museum to showcase “Bydee” history, artwork and stories, providing an educational resource for visitors while developing programs and events to engage the community. Known for his colorful storytelling, Brian “Bydeeman” Joseph has cultivated several decades of experience as an artist. He began his career in 1986 and developed the Bydee Art Gallery in 1990, where he continues to create unique artistic pieces, including the largest mural in Austin, Texas.
