41 Millennium - Nineteenth Edition EDUCATION for Jewish Education. Through 1981, he pursued graduate-level coursework in educational administration at John Carroll University. He is a certified day school administrator and teacher of Judaic and Hebraic studies and holds an honorary doctorate from JTS in 2010. Before his retirement in 2023, Dr. Katz spent 26 years as an educator and director of Jewish life and learning for the Jewish Alliance of Greater Rhode Island. To wit, he supported schools and teachers in finding educational and financial resources, facilitating development opportunities, and conducting collaborations with regional Catholic, Protestant and nonpublic schools. He began his career in the 1970s as a school and camp teacher and counselor. In 1978, he was named a fellow of the Cleveland Bureau of Jewish Education, becoming director of community services from 1980 through 1982. After three years as the educational director of a joint religious school in New Jersey, Dr. Katz became the education director for the Cincinnati Community Hebrew Schools, concurrently serving as Assistant Director of the Bureau of Jewish Education of Cincinnati. Before accepting his position with the Jewish Alliance of Greater Rhode Island, he held similar leadership roles with the Jewish Federation of Greater Dallas and a Canadian synagogue. Dr. Katz served on the boards of several organizations and was the president of the Jewish Educators Assembly. He has published extensively on topics in Jewish life and learning. In light of his fulfilling career, he attributes his success to his unwavering perseverance and commitment to his goals. Lawrence M. Katz is a retired educator and Judaic studies expert celebrating nearly five decades of service to others. He holds a BA in history from Columbia University and an MA in Jewish education from the Jewish Theological Seminary (JTS) in 1978.
