Mr. May is a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, where he served from 2001 until 2021 as an active-duty helicopter pilot, flight instructor, and in administrative leadership roles. He retired from the military in 2021 as a current operations planner. While in the United States Marine Corps, Mr. May earned a bachelor’s degree in international business from Mansfield University of Pennsylvania and a master’s degree in management and leadership from Webster University in addition to FAA commercial pilot and instructor certifications for single- and multi-engine aircraft and rotorcraft helicopters. His passion for the aviation industry grew from his family’s involvement in the field. During his time in the military, Mr. May developed an acute understanding of the lack of opportunities for underserved and low-income youth seeking to enter the industry, leading to his involvement with the Mt. Calvary Center for Leadership Development. In addition to his work with youth and community development, Mr. May maintains a career as a helicopter pilot for a life flight company, which allows him to dedicate his personal time to building and executing the goals of the Mt. Calvary Center’s aviation program. Within the next decade, he hopes to launch a flight school targeted toward rural and low-income youth in southeastern North Carolina and is currently seeking donors and grant funding to make this goal a reality. Mr. May credits his success to the support of his many personal mentors from youth sports and the Marine Corps and hopes to pass these opportunities on to others through his work. J ustin W.
