As a professor, she devoted her time to enhancing the education of her students, aspiring to serve as an inspiration to them and all young individuals and encouraging them to follow their dreams. Looking to the future, Dr. Nicklas hopes to continue prioritizing her health, helping others and enjoying her retirement. She is grateful for the support she has received from the community and wants to give back by contributing positively to society. Furthermore, she plans to continue volunteering in the community and currently works with a nonprofit organization to feed 400 homeless people daily. Reflecting on her career, she hopes to be remembered as someone who played a substantial role in changing public health policy for child nutrition. She notes that “Everyone can follow their dreams; it takes commitment, perseverance and dedication to accomplish those dreams!” During her first year at Friends World College, Dr. Theresa A. Nicklas worked with a social worker in Atlanta, Georgia. During this internship, she visited homes and determined if the environments were safe for children; many cases involved child abuse and neglect. She completed her second year at the college rehabilitating severely malnourished children in Haiti. After her experience there, she discovered her dream and decided to become more knowledgeable in the dynamics of nutrition. Thus, she transferred to the Rochester Institute of Technology to pursue a BS in dietetics and nutrition. She subsequently earned an MPH and a DrPH at the Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine. Throughout her career, Dr. Nicklas has made significant contributions to the field of nutrition with over 350 scientific, peer-reviewed publications. She has also served on national committees, including the prestigious Dietary Guidelines for Americans committee, which plays a crucial role in setting national standards for public health policy and nutrition. From 1999 to 2022, Dr. Nicklas excelled as a professor in the department of pediatrics at Baylor College of Medicine, Children’s Nutrition Research Center. Following her retirement, THERESA A.
