50 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine Janice L. White is a retired English professor from Selma University, where she cultivated a fulfilling career over the course of more than three decades. She began her academic career operating at the middle and high school level before transitioning to postsecondary education as a professor at the University of Nebraska and Bryant College. She became a full-time professor at Blue Mountain College after relocating to the school for her husband’s faculty position. Ms. White continued to teach at Kansas State College and worked as an editor for Lloyd’s Life while pursuing doctoral studies at Tulane University and the University of Pittsburgh. In 1991, she paused her dissertation to accept a position at Selma University, where she specialized in African American literature until her retirement in 1996 As part of her vocational journey, Ms. White pursued her own higher education, earning a bachelor’s degree in English at the University of Texas at Austin and a master’s degree in English at the University of Mississippi. She credits her success to the support of her colleagues and is currently writing a musical based on her time as a professor.
