Afterward, he transferred to the University of Florida (UF), where he subsequently graduated with a BS in nuclear engineering, with honors, in 1974. Mr. Cross subsequently began his career with the Tennessee Valley Authority as a power supply planning engineer and later as a reactor and operations engineer at the Crystal River Unit 3, where he worked until 1981. After serving as a nuclear licensing manager for the Florida Power Corporation, he entered consulting as the owner of Southern Technical Services. He spent the next two decades delivering his expertise to electric utility clients in the nuclear energy sector. His projects focused on securing operating licenses for plants, including Waterford 3, Comanche Peak and others. In 2003, Mr. Cross formed Crosservices Inc., where he provided publishing and graphic design services. He stepped aside in 2008 and returned to the nuclear industry as a design supervisor for Florida Power & Light (FPL). After earning a promotion to the role of senior manager, he stayed with FPL until he retired in 2016. He returned to independent nuclear consulting in 2016 and established WACross LLC in 2017, serving as a managing member through 2018. Though he is now retired, Mr. Cross hopes to remain active in the field in a limited capacity and is optimistic about the future of nuclear power in the United States. When Mr. Cross received his license, he was one of approximately 3,000 individuals to hold an SRO license (SOP-3122) for a nuclear power plant. During his time at UF, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and his professors honored him for his research contributions. He credits his success to the longterm support of his wife and family and looks forward to dedicating his time to his children and grandchildren in the coming years. William A.
