88 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine GOVERNMENT AND MILITARY With a strong background in technology and business, Steven Harpe has spent over 30 years in leading technology companies and financial institutions. After John Kevin Stitt — whom Mr. Harpe worked under for many years — became the governor of Oklahoma in 2018, Mr. Harpe transitioned into the public sector to address the state’s technological needs and cyber issues. His dedication and expertise led to his roles as a director at the Oklahoma Office of Management and Enterprise Services between 2019 and 2022. He then became the chief operating officer for the state between 2021 and 2022. In these positions, he played a pivotal role in modernizing state government and optimizing the use of state funds in alignment with the governor’s objectives. Mr. Harpe’s career took a significant turn in 2019 when he was appointed to the board of the Oklahoma Department of Corrections, where he eventually rose to become chairman. This experience provided him with valuable insights into the challenges faced by inmates and the correctional environment, motivating him to prioritize improving the services provided to inmates within the state's correctional system. As the state chief executive officer, he was offered the position of executive director of the department in 2022. Since then, he has worked to transform the correctional environment and address the culture’s challenges, leaving a positive impact on the state of Oklahoma. At the onset of his vocational journey, Mr. Harpe attended Tulsa Community College, where he earned an Associate of Applied Science in liberal arts in 1990. In light of his accomplishments, he attributes much of his success to his unwavering dedication and forward-thinking approach. Looking ahead, Mr. Harpe intends to continue serving in his current position with the support of the incoming candidates for governor of Oklahoma. He hopes to remain involved with the Oklahoma Department of Corrections and complete his current projects. Following his career in government operations, he plans to return to the private sector to assist other states.
