In the coming years, Dr. Smay hopes to transition into operating in a new leadership role, and she aspires to join the board of a Fortune 500 corporation. She also remains fully focused on raising her children as a devoted mother. then completed a fellowship in pediatric anesthesiology at the university between 2011 and 2012. Recently, Dr. Smay received a Master of Business Administration in health sector management from the Duke University Fuqua School of Business in 2023. In addition to her academic credentials, she also holds pertinent board certifications and completed the Black Corporate Board Readiness Program in 2024. Ever committed to her profession, Dr. Smay remains active as a member of several industry-related organizations. These include the American Board of Anesthesiologists, the American Society of Anesthesiologists and the Society for Pediatric Anesthesiology. Furthermore, since 2021, she has served on the board of advisors for Transdermal Solutions LLC. Well-regarded for her accomplishments as a consummate professional in the field, Dr. Smay was honored with the One Team Award from NorthStar Anesthesia in 2023. With over a decade of experience to her credit, Dr. Jewel Montgomery Smay is a rising expert in the health care industry. To wit, she is well-versed as a boardcertified pediatric anesthesiologist and health care administrator, utilizing her unique skills in pediatric and clinical anesthesiology to aid numerous patients on a regular basis. Since 2013, Dr. Smay has primarily served as the founder, president and chief executive officer of Montgomery Anesthesia Service, PC. She and her team of experts focus on providing cuttingedge monitoring techniques and treatments to ensure the highest standard of care for all patients, backed by a commitment to their constant safety. At the onset of her career, Dr. Smay operated as a pediatric anesthesiologist for several medical institutions. She began working with the St. John Health System in Tulsa, Oklahoma, in 2014, where she would remain until 2017. Between 2017 and 2020, she then worked alongside colleagues at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center and the Hillcrest Healthcare System. Afterward, Dr. Smay became the medical director of NorthStar Anesthesia in Muskogee, a leadership role she held from 2020 to 2023. Between 2022 and 2023, she also acted as the organization’s regional medical director for the states of Oklahoma, Kansas and Missouri. During her time with NorthStar, she deftly demonstrated her skills as a proficient business operator. Adjacent to her primary professional endeavors, Dr. Smay briefly taught as an assistant professor at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center from 2012 to 2014. As part of her vocational journey, she cultivated her own higher education, beginning her studies at Duke University, where she earned a BS in psychology in 1995. She subsequently continued her collegiate career at the University of Illinois College of Medicine, ultimately achieving an MD in 2007.
