As part of his ongoing ventures, Mr. McMaster is currently focused on consulting and intellectual property transfer with his businesses, including marketing a comprehensive manual on Florida pompano farming and overseeing the development of commercial projects with clients worldwide. To wit, he is recently advising clients in Samoa and the United States. As the industry’s foremost expert on marine larval fish farming, he has developed innovations and processes that have not been replicated. Mr. McMaster studied at the Utah State University College of Wildlife Biology (now the S.J. & Jessie E. Quinney College of Natural Resources), where he earned a BS in fisheries science and management in 1969. He subsequently began his career at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, where he researched marine pelagic fish breeding and became the first to identify key factors in the feeding and reproductive cycles of anchovies. He would later apply these findings to his studies of Florida pompano. After publishing his research, he was recruited by Oceanography Mariculture Industries Inc. to help develop the world’s first successful vertically integrated pompano farm in the Dominican Republic in 1972. Mr. McMaster has been recognized by the United Nations’ Food and Agriculture Organization for his contributions to pompano fish farming technology and is passionate about the potential for mariculture to transform the seafood supply chain.
