This inspired him to major in music at Gardner-Webb University. Focusing his studies on the organ, he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in music education. He then earned a master’s degree in church music at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. Mr. Humphries taught music in the Jefferson County Public Schools until his retirement in 2018.
