In 2003, she became the chief executive officer of Douglas Elliman Real Estate, a firm specializing in sales and rental of luxury properties, including new builds. For more than 20 years, she has led the company’s expansion, overseeing growth across various services, including property management and development marketing. In addition to her role as the chief executive officer, Ms. Herman has also served as the company’s vice chair since 2018. Ms. Herman began her career at Merrill Lynch in the early 1990s as it attempted to rebrand from a brokerage firm to a full-service financial management house. Though it was originally established as a brokerage, the business eventually began focusing on diversification, seeking to incorporate other banking products, including mortgages, alternative investment categories and real estate. Ms. Herman initially joined Merrill Lynch’s national real estate arm, working as a regional manager for the Northeast region. In her position, she oversaw operations, staffing, sales, and development for New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, and Boston, Massachusetts. She quickly developed a positive reputation for her wellrounded and multifaceted expertise, with a focus on superb achievement and building fruitful relationships with clients and stakeholders.
