Drawing inspiration from her father, a neurologist and psychiatrist, Dr. Brandt pursued a BA at the University of Georgia, graduating cum laude in 1974. Delving into the study of psychology, she continued her education at the University of Alabama, achieving an MA in 1977 and a PhD in 1980. After she completed postgraduate studies at the University of Alabama, she worked in adolescent medicine between 1978 and 1979. In the coming years, Dr. Brandt plans to continue pursuing her passions and making meaningful contributions to the field of psychology. Despite reaching her 70s, she remains committed to her work and plans to maintain this dedication for as long as possible. by researching and participating in new clinical trials. She has been cancer-free ever since and now generously supports Komen and the American Cancer Society. Dr. Brandt’s daughters, one of whom is a physician and the other a businessperson, actively guide and support these philanthropic initiatives. Their involvement in boards further leads to substantial donations, along with contributions to the nearby hospital and other various organizations. Dr. Brandt is ever committed to giving back and supporting the community in meaningful ways. Reflecting on her career, Dr. Brandt attributes much of her success to her upbringing in Savannah, where her parents were very well regarded. Growing up, she established strong connections in her community, which have proven instrumental in her journey. Likewise, Dr. Joe Ann Brandt is an accomplished psychologist and business owner with nearly five decades of experience to her credit. Since 1981, she has served as a clinical psychologist with Savannah Psychological Consultants PC. Previously, she worked at the University of Alabama, beginning in 1978 as an intern in adolescent medicine. She then taught psychology at the university between 1979 and 1980. Adjacent to her primary duties, Dr. Brandt remains involved in the larger psychology community. To wit, she is a member of several pertinent organizations, including the Georgia Psychological Association and the American Psychological Association. She was also the president of the Coastal Association of Psychologists and has been active with the Association for the Advancement of Psychology and the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis. In her community, Dr. Brandt champions numerous causes, such as the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and many local associations. Additionally, she is a co-owner of Wet Willie’s Inc. Each Wet Willie’s location offers a wealth of frozen daiquiris, alongside a variety of delicious food options. The first location opened in Savannah, Georgia, in 1990, followed by a second location in Miami Beach, Florida. Currently, the company operates ten physical locations across the United States. Wet Willie’s locations operate under two managers who undergo a comprehensive series of tests, including the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI). Both Dr. Brandt and her husband interview candidates separately, assessing academic skills such as reading and mathematics. Mathematical proficiency is crucial to the business, as managers must be precise with daiquiri ingredients. In her civic-minded endeavors, Dr. Brandt has made significant contributions through donations to local organizations. She and her colleagues have also initiated efforts to support the families of fallen firefighters and police officers, directing funds to this meaningful cause.
