83 Millennium - Twentieth Edition GOVERNMENT AND MILITARY Scott Harmon has cultivated over 35 years of experience in the fields of government and finance. Since 2022, he has served as the audit director for the United States Department of Veterans Affairs in the Office of Inspector General, where he utilizes his expertise in fraud and risk management. To wit, Mr. Harmon holds a BA in management from the University of Maryland, and he is a fully certified government auditing professional, fraud examiner and internal auditor, as recognized by The Institute of Internal Auditors. Mr. Harmon began his career in the financial services sector in the late 1980s, operating as a branch manager for ITT Inc. and Citigroup Inc. (now Citi) between 1989 and 1996. He then transitioned into a corporate auditor role for Citigroup. He continued to explore other roles within the company, becoming a corporate auditor in 1996 and a credit analyst in 2001 before departing the company in 2008 as the manager of business risk review. In 2008, Mr. Harmon entered the public sector, spending one year as a senior auditor for the United States Department of Transportation Inspector General and another as a supervisory auditor for the Special Inspector General for the Troubled Asset Relief Program. He was subsequently named a senior inspections manager for the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction in 2010, leading to a long-term role as a deputy assistant inspector general for audits and inspections. Between 2015 and 2022, Mr. Harmon oversaw a field team of about 50 staff members responsible for transitioning power from NATO to local Afghan police forces. He considers this work to be the highlight of his career, and he is proud to have had the opportunity to take on such a significant role. In his current position, Mr. Harmon manages nearly 20 employees working on four concurrent performance audits. In the coming years, he looks forward to further developing himself professionally and taking on new and more complex assignments.
