144 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine MEDICINE, HEALTH CARE AND WELLNESS Judy R. Hensley, RN, is a registered nurse with more than four decades of experience in oncology and comprehensive cancer care. Drawn to human services professions from a young age, she earned an associate degree in nursing from North Hennepin Community College in 1980. Since 2014, she has been the facilitator of the UCSF Health San Mateo Primary and Specialty Care Clinic’s cancer support group, where she provides a safe and supportive environment for patients with cancer to connect with others and process their experiences. Ms. Hensley began her career in the early 1980s as a staff nurse and later charge nurse for the VA medical center in Minneapolis and continued to work with the agency in San Francisco until 1989, rising to become head nurse of the medical oncology floor at her facility. That year, she left hospital and clinic settings to work in home health as a case manager and clinical supervisor for CHS Home Health Care, a division of Catholic Health Home Care, a position she would hold until 1997. During this time, Ms. Hensley concurrently pursued independent entrepreneurial projects, including a gift basket business that she ran successfully from 1992 to 2004. In 2013, Ms. Hensley joined the San Mateo Primary and Specialty Care Clinic as a staff nurse, and the following year, she began facilitating cancer support groups. She stepped down from clinical responsibilities in 2017 to focus on her support group work. Throughout her career, she has written and presented extensively on topics in pain and infection control in hospice care, cancer and AIDS treatment. She attributes her success to her passion for her work and to the influence of her mother, a single parent who impressed upon her the value of hard work and commitment to her goals. JUDY R.
