Jones is a rising expert in the health care industry. Since 2022, she has served as a care coordinator and registrar at Atrium Health, where she registers patients for behavioral health care in the emergency department. Prior to entering the field, Ms. Jones honorably served in the United States Army from 2005 to 2013, operating in human resources as a transportation management coordinator and a petroleum supply specialist. As part of her vocational journey, Ms. Jones pursued a formal education, ultimately achieving an MS in health psychology at North Central University in 2023. She is also currently pursuing a master’s degree in marriage and family therapy — fields she aims to specialize in as she continues her health care career. Additionally, she regularly contributes to various civic-minded organizations. Ms. Jones attributes much of her success to her discipline and proactive mentality. While she is grateful for her professional accomplishments to this point, she is most notably proud to have raised two children as a single mother. In the coming years, she hopes to become a fully licensed practicing therapist. Dr. Olubunmi Olutoyin Afonja is a board-certified pediatric hematology-oncology specialist who has dedicated her career to researching and developing new therapies for blood disorders and cancer. Her passion for hematology-oncology was inspired by witnessing the profound impact that sickle cell disease had on members of her community while growing up in Nigeria. She earned her MBBS degree from the University of Ibadan in 1990. Dr. Afonja is currently the owner of and principal consultant at Oriola ClinMed Consulting, where she provides medical oversight of clinical studies, offers expert input on regulatory submissions (IND and BLA), and supports medical affairs initiatives across both investigational and approved therapies. Her work builds on prior leadership roles at Bayer Pharmaceuticals and Editas Medicine, and she has published widely on rare hematologic disorders, including hematologic malignancies. Looking ahead, Dr. Afonja remains committed to the clinical development of novel treatments for rare diseases and inherited genetic disorders, with a particular focus on conditions affecting children and infants.
