During her tenure at Minot State University, she served as a project director for various initiatives, many of which pertained to assisting individuals with different disabilities or traumas. Today, she remains active as a co-chairperson and member of the board of directors of the International Peace Garden. In pursuit of her own higher education, Dr. Curl-Langager ultimately achieved a PhD in developmental and child psychology at The University of Kansas in 1982. To commemorate her achievements, she was previously honored with several accolades, many of which included prestigious research grants from the United States Department of Education and the Department of Health and Human Services. In light of her fulfilling career, Dr. Curl-Langager has attributed much of her success to her persistence and determination. Dr. Rita M. Curl-Langager has cultivated more than five decades of success as an accomplished educator and author. From 1997 to 2018, she served as a professor in the department of addiction studies, psychology and social work at Minot State University. She originally joined the institution in 1991 as an associate professor in the department of education and psychology. Since 2018, Dr. Curl-Langager has maintained professor emeritus status at the university. She also notably taught at The University of Kansas from 1978 to 1985 and Utah State University from 1987 to 1991. Dr. Curl-Langager has long committed herself to developing programs and curricula that best serve students. To this end, she has excelled as a writer, with her most recent work, the first edition of “Adulthood: An Introduction,” published in 2024 by Routledge. She also authored the eighth and ninth editions of “Instructors Manual to Accompany Adolescence,” published in 2001 and 2003, respectively. Throughout the 1990s, she co-authored numerous papers on rehabilitation and managing disabilities, published in such journals as the Journal of Vocational Rehabilitation and Rural Special Education Quarterly.
