She is a current member of Columbia University’s board of trustees nominating committee and continues to seek out opportunities to guide the future of academia in her specialty. In recognition of her decades of contribution to social work, she was the recipient of a Distinguished Service Medal from Columbia University and a Centennial Award from the Columbia School of Social Work, in addition to the Society for Social Work Leaders in Health Care’s prestigious Hyman J. Weiner Award. Most recently, she was presented with the organization’s 2021 Ellen Perlman Simon Mentor Award for her dedication to nurturing emerging professionals. leadership position in 1997, becoming program director of Cornell Psychiatry’s intensive outpatient program and taking on a dual role as treatment coordinator for the program’s affective disorder team. She continued to excel in these positions until 2000, when she turned her focus to her work as a senior lecturer of social work in psychiatry at Weill Cornell Medicine, which remains her primary occupation. Throughout her career, Ms. Matorin has been active in academia, including terms as an adjunct professor and advisory council member at the Columbia School of Social Work. She has published extensively on topics in social work, behavioral health and culture, including contributions to professional journals, books and letters to the editor for high-profile outlets such as The New York Times.
