199 Millennium - Twenty-first Edition SOCIAL WORK, PUBLIC SERVICE, NONPROFIT AND HUMANITIES Ordained by the Unitarian Universalist Association in 1973, Dr. Wesley Vinton Hromatko is well-regarded as an esteemed minister and presenter. Chief among his current responsibilities, he has excelled as a speaker for the TriState Unitarian Universalist Congregations (UUA) since 1990. Over the course of his career, he has spoken before many Unitarian Universalist churches, including an appearance at the UUA headquarters. To better support his vocational goals, Dr. Hromatko pursued postsecondary education, first earning a BA, cum laude, at the University of Minnesota in 1969, followed by an MA and DMin at Meadville Lombard Theological School in 1971 and 1973, respectively. Since the conclusion of his studies and ordination, he has served as a minister for churches and congregations across the United States. Among the congregations and communities he has served are the First Congressional Parish and All Souls Church in Massachusetts, the First Unitarian Church in Hobart, Indiana, and the Oaklandon Universalist Church in Indianapolis. While working toward ordination, Dr. Hromatko was a student minister at the Abraham Lincoln Fellowship, Unity Temple and the Third Unitarian Church in Illinois. In addition to his work in ministry, he has found success in agriculture, having owned and operated Century Farm since 2011 and been an active member of the Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party since 1990. Furthermore, he is well-regarded for his scholarly output, including his contributions to “The New Encyclopedia of Unbelief” in 2007. Ever committed to his profession, Dr. Hromatko has maintained membership in the Unitarian Universalist Ministers Association and American Civil Liberties Union, among many other industry-related organizations. In appreciation of his dedication to service, he has earned numerous awards throughout his career, notably including a 1975 Entenmann Ohanian Award for his work with the UUA. In 2023, he celebrated 50 years of ordination. Dr. Hromatko largely attributes his success to the inspiration of youth group leaders and ministers who inspired his own passion for ministry.
