A former vice president and senior risk operations manager at JPMorgan Chase in Columbus from 2006 to 2008, he commenced his career in 1990 with Wells Fargo in San Francisco, California, serving as an assistant vice president and bank branch manager. Then, he transitioned to Portland, Oregon, and went on to serve as vice president and operations business relationship manager, as well as a vice president and operations site manager. Highly educated, Dr. Lewis holds an EdD in educational leadership from Ashland University. He also completed a BA in psychology, with a minor in business, at Morehouse College and an MBA at the University of Phoenix. Dr. Lewis attributes much of his success to the support of his family, work teams and community. In the coming years, he aims to continue developing a sense of belonging in the Bexley school system by eradicating discrimination. With extensive experience in academic settings and the financial sector, Dr. Stephen M. Lewis Sr. draws on over 30 years of expertise, culminating in his present role as the leader of school community engagement in the city of Bexley, Ohio. Since 2023, he has played a crucial role in the Bexley school system by fostering inclusive and equitable situations to support both faculty and students. To this end, he has demonstrated a profound commitment to diversity and inclusion, promoting solid educational environments where students can feel comfortable being themselves and accept other students’ identities. Concurrently, he was the leader of diversity, equity and inclusion between 2023 and 2025. Earlier in his career, Dr. Lewis served as a business teacher and the supervisor of equity and inclusion at the Olentangy Local School District from 2015 to 2023 and taught business at Upper Arlington City Schools from 2012 to 2015. Similarly, he was a substitute teacher with the Educational Service Center of Central Ohio in Columbus and served as president of the Ohio Business Educators Association from 2012 to 2014.
