26 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine ACADEMIA, EDUCATION AND EDUCATIONAL SERVICES In recognition of his knowledge of his work and commitment to his students, Mr. Westberry served as a judge for choral competitions and was presented with three Hartford County Curriculum Development Awards throughout his career. He attributes much of his professional success to the support of his wife and to the strength he developed through overcoming early adversities. In his retirement, he enjoys attending Broadway shows and traveling with his wife, including upcoming trips to Mexico and Italy. Douglas B. Westberry is a retired educator and educational administrator who has celebrated more than 35 years of dedication to supporting his students and staff. He holds a Bachelor of Science in music education from Florida International University and completed a Master of Education in educational management and supervision at Loyola University in 1987. The same year, he was certified as a principal by the National Association of Secondary Directors. Mr. Westberry began teaching in 1974 at Silver Bluff Elementary School, where he remained for the next four years. In 1978, he joined the staff of North Harford Middle School, where he spent the remainder of his career as a beloved teacher and administrator. Until his retirement from education in 2008, he served as a music teacher, choral director and administrative designee. Under his direction, five different choral cohorts competed in state and nationallevel competitions, earning 11 “excellent” and 37 “superior” rankings in addition to a Judge’s Choice Award.
