She began her career as a mathematics and science classroom teacher in the district’s BKG Pamoja Preparatory Academy, working with students from third through eighth grade from 2016 to 2023. During her time in the classroom, Ms. Chatman was the recipient of two district-level Teacher of the Year awards and a finalist for the Saint Louis Science Center’s Loeb Prize. Given her track record of success, Ms. Chatman was recommended as a consultant teacher in 2023 and became a math curriculum specialist the following year, conducting professional development and curriculum analysis and supporting teachers in executing standards-based lessons. She is committed to using her role to improve the efficacy of her district’s math curriculum to help students increase mastery and reduce mathematics-related anxiety. Ms. Chatman looks forward to attaining a doctoral degree within the next five to 10 years. Dr. Carolyn Ann Grim leverages decades of educational excellence to apply to her work at Agora Education Research. Founding the nonprofit in 2025 to preserve federal education research investments after layoffs at the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES), she is well-versed in educational practices, with expertise in language education and measurement. Previously, she served NCES in Washington, DC, between 2010 and 2025 as an education statistician, psychometrician and study director for the Middle Grades Longitudinal Study – the first national-level study of middle grade students in the U.S. Under Dr. Grim’s leadership, the study set innovative standards for longitudinal design and implementation, taking 13 years to complete. Dr. Grim also worked as a research scientist and psychometrician at the Center for Applied Linguistics and was a principal investigator on a major FIPSE grant through the Department of Education, developing methods for teaching nonverbal and cross-cultural communication skills to language learners. Earning the Graduate Student Award from the AERA, she holds a PhD in educational research, measurement and evaluation from Boston College. She is fluent in English, French, German and Spanish.
