65 Millennium - Twenty-first Edition BUSINESS, FINANCE AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP Outside his professional pursuits, Mr. Dougherty was a motorcycle safety instructor for the Motorcycle Safety Foundation at Northern Illinois University from 2008 to 2016. He has served as a member of the American Cancer Society Men’s Task Force and the East Tennessee ICF Legal Advocacy Task Force, and served as a respite provider for Smoky Mountain Service Dogs, serving disabled veterans. He supports his local volunteer fire department and served as vice president of his homeowner’s association. In his spare time, he enjoys scuba diving, motorcycle riding and aviation. He is a licensed private pilot with instrument and seaplane ratings. Mr. Dougherty is committed to carrying on his work in leadership development, especially through the EMBA program at UT, conducting leadership assessments and leadership coaching for EMBA candidates, and acting as a coach for UT ACEI. Though he has scaled back from a full-time workload, he has no plans for total retirement anytime soon, often joking that he may never retire due to his ongoing passion for his work, lifelong learning ethos, and his unending drive to help others and stay connected to the business world. Executive Education Department’s Executive MBA Program (EMBA), where he conducted leadership assessments and leadership coaching for EMBA candidates, a role he considers to be an important part of his legacy as he looks toward the next chapter of his career. Mr. Dougherty later took on additional roles at UT in the management and entrepreneurship department, focused on undergraduate business management courses and as an occasional guest lecturer. He is affiliated with UT’s Anderson Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation (ACEI) as a coach for students interested in pursuing entrepreneurial and/or innovative initiatives. Mr. Dougherty owes his success to the support of his family, peers and mentors, particularly Dr. Norbert A. Roughton of Regis University and Mohamed Kande, global chairman of PWC International Limited. He attributes his core values, intrinsic sense of focus, integrity and growth to his upbringing and Jesuit education, citing the order’s focus on service and learning. He plans to remain active in business and leadership development and continue to work with clients and students in aerospace and defense, physicians and health care, and medical practice management.
