8 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine ACADEMIA, EDUCATION AND EDUCATIONAL SERVICES GOKHAN GELISEN, PHD, PE, PMP, LEED AP, ENV SP FULL-TIME PROFESSOR OF CIVIL ENGINEERING Bahcesehir University Istanbul, Turkey Dr. Gokhan Gelisen is a professor in the civil engineering department at Bahcesehir University, where he has taught project management, construction management and transportation courses to students since 2015. He developed an early interest in construction and engineering, powered by a desire to help others and make a positive impact on communities. Born in Turkey, he completed high school with an emphasis on mathematics and science coursework at TED Ankara College before going on to the civil engineering department at Istanbul Technical University in 1996. Though not yet done with his education, Dr. Gelisen began his career with engineering internships for Aktürk Yapi Endüstrisi ve Ticaret A.Ş. and Atak Engineering Construction Industry & Trade Inc. Co., where he remained through 1998. While completing his industry internships, Dr. Gelisen studied at Middle East Technical University, earning a degree in civil engineering in 1999. That year, he relocated to the United States to pursue other educational and professional opportunities, including a student assistant position at the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat and a research assistantship with DaimlerChrysler. He enrolled at Lehigh University, working as a teaching assistant before completing a Master of Science in structural engineering in 2001. After leaving Lehigh University, Dr. Gelisen joined Parsons Brinckerhoff as a senior structural engineer, departing in 2005 to become a senior project controls engineer for Washington Group International. Dr. Gelisen’s lifelong dedication to learning and the passion for teaching that he discovered while at Lehigh University led him to extend his graduate studies, and in 2006, he was awarded a Master of Science in computer science by Columbia University. In 2010, he completed a Doctor of Philosophy in construction management at New York University. During this period, he served as vice president of academic affairs for FTAA, returning to his industry in 2007 as a cost manager for Skanska, a position he held until 2015. He continued his affiliation with FTAA, serving as vice president of technology between 2012 and 2015. In addition to his current responsibilities as a professor at Bahcesehir University, Dr. Gelisen remains an in-demand professional consultant with a portfolio of clients, including Airports de Paris, Dogus Group, Hydrostroy AD and
