Gest is distinguished in the specialties of emergency medicine, occupational medicine and telemedicine. Currently, he serves as the founder and chief executive officer of MEDnRX, where he promotes comprehensive patient care through telehealth and telepharmacy services and enhances equitable access to health care for underresourced and marginalized communities. Utilizing MEDnRX, patients can undergo remote examinations and information intake for a wide variety of medical issues, reducing unnecessary time spent on in-person clinical visits and increasing the accessibility of vital medical care. In addition to these tasks, Dr. Gest collaborates with pharmacists to optimize patient treatment modalities and utilizes several technologies to provide the best possible treatment in primary and urgent care cases. To this end, MEDnRX has leveraged telemedicine, health care kiosks and state-of-the-art delivery methods to help patients achieve optimal health. Looking toward the future of MEDnRX, Dr. Gest endeavors to play a crucial role in the efficiency and accessibility of health services, particularly in rural areas where in-person access may not be readily available. Dr. Gest commenced his career as a physician at West Yellowstone National Park, where he treated his first patient and established a strong foundation for the rest of his career in emergency medicine. From there, he served as a regional medical director at Emergency Medical Services Associates from 1991 to 1997 and at Concentra between 1998 and 2002, where he contributed to managing large-scale medical operations. In 2002, Dr. Gest joined Emeryville Occupational Medical Center, serving as the founder, medical director and occupational medicine specialist until 2020. Under his leadership, the medical center expanded to four locations with a staff of approximately 100 employees. Concurrently, from 2009 to 2014, Dr. Gest was the owner and director of the Santa Cruz Occupational Medical Center and has served as the chief executive officer of Bluebox Healthcare since 2021.
