Sheets Jr. is well-regarded for his decades of experience and commitment to innovation. Since 2023, he has served as the president and chief executive officer of Eyesight Mobile, where his efforts have been crucial in developing portable ophthalmic examination solutions to increase accessibility to eye care. Likewise, since 2014, Dr. Sheets has served as the founder and principal of ThoughtStorm Innovation, providing consultations on innovation and regulatory strategies in the medical device sector. Earlier in his career, Dr. Sheets served as the chief executive officer of Pantheon Vision from 2023 to 2025, leading the company from inception to readiness for the first in-human trials of a synthetic cornea designed to address the ophthalmic needs of patients in low- and middleincome countries. Previously, he was a strategic advisor to the Stevenson School of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Oklahoma, a business advisor to Boyd Street Ventures, and the president of ELISAR within the Dr. Agarwal Eye Hospital System in Chennai, India. He was also vice president for science and technology advancement at LifeNet Health. Furthermore, Dr. Sheets served as the director of the Office of Device Evaluation at the FDA’s Center for Devices and Radiological Health, the chief scientific officer at Anika Therapeutics, and the senior vice president for corporate research at Boston Scientific. Earlier experience also included executive-level roles with Bausch + Lomb, HOYA Surgical Optics in Tokyo, Ethicon, Alcon and Johnson & Johnson’s IOLAB Corporation. Dr. Sheets holds over 20 U.S. patents and has been recognized for establishing highperformance teams that have consistently advanced medical technologies. A fellow of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering and the recipient of a PhD in materials science and engineering from the University of Florida, he has likewise served on the board of the International Space Station National Laboratory since 2021.
