Spears is distinguished in the field of investment management as the retired principal of Cannell & Spears. Serving the firm for many years until his formal retirement, Mr. Spears provided investment and estate planning advice to a select group of clients, offering tailored financial strategies to support their long-term goals. Notably, he regards this tenure as among the pinnacles of his career, emphasizing that he established the firm in a manner that upheld his ethical principles while allowing him to remain supportive of his clients. Earlier in his career, Mr. Spears worked for several other organizations, including Loeb, Rhoades & Co., which he joined in 1962 and was promoted to general partner in 1970. In 1972, he founded Spears, Benzak, Salomon & Farrell Inc., which was subsequently purchased by KeyCorp. Thereafter, Mr. Spears served as the chair of KeyCorp Asset Management for several years before founding Spears, Grisanti & Brown LLC in 1999. Mr. Spears worked in this capacity until becoming principal of Cannell & Spears, where he spent the remainder of his illustrious career. Mr. Spears developed an interest in investing early on, with his father gifting him investment money as a teenager.
