79 Millennium - Twenty-second Edition BUSINESS, FINANCE AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP Mr. de Ceglie is the founder and managing member of dc-NY Food Consulting LLC, which assists medium-sized Italian food companies in entering the U.S. market. His extensive experience successfully running businesses in this market has given him unique insight into the opportunities and challenges these companies face. However, Mr. de Ceglie did not start in the food industry. His career began at Unilever, where he advanced to serve as the financial manager for the launch of the Dove brand in Europe. Following the multi-billion-dollar success of this project, he transitioned to the central buyer for the Bertolli olive oil brand, a role in which he was responsible for purchasing about 15% of the world’s olive oil production annually. While Mr. de Ceglie grew up outside of Rome, he was far from an olive oil expert. He approached his position with humility and openness, seeking to understand the underlying principles of the industry. As a result, he significantly improved the purchasing process and commercial activities of the Bertolli brand, marking a proud achievement in his career. Mr. de Ceglie would go on to serve as chief executive officer of Deoleo S.A., De Cecco USA-PMI Inc., and Filippo Berio USA Ltd, all Italian food businesses. His current consulting work aims to provide meaningful support to emerging companies in this niche market. In addition to his work, Mr. de Ceglie encourages business newcomers to approach their professions with genuine curiosity and interest, a testament to his legacy of prioritizing learning and maintaining positive relationships. He is working with the Careers through Culinary Arts Program (C•CAP) to charter a chapter in Miami. The nonprofit guides young people from challenging backgrounds toward careers in the culinary arts as chefs. Throughout his extensive career, Marco de Ceglie has lived and worked in four countries and traveled to over 45 others. This unique global perspective instilled in him the value of engaging with people from diverse backgrounds, cultures and life experiences.
