146 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine SOCIAL WORK, PUBLIC SERVICE, NONPROFIT AND HUMANITIES CAPTAIN ROSALIND LEE WALTON-RUSSELL ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR, AREA COORDINATOR, DIRECTOR Department of Social Work, Texas College Quitman, TX Captain Rosalind Walton-Russell’s career in social work spans 50 years, and at that time, she established a legacy in many ways. She has founded or co-founded numerous civic organizations, spearheaded the accreditation of Texas College’s social work program, and guided hundreds of students into the field. The President of the United States even recognized her work. A licensed clinical social worker, Capt. WaltonRussell served as an associate professor, area coordinator and director of the Department of Social Work at Texas College from 1993 to 2023. For 25 years at the college, she led the charge to secure program accreditation so graduates could sit for the state board exam rather than earning an additional degree elsewhere. In 2025, the college announced that accreditation had been obtained under her direction, and though this occurred after her retirement, it remains one of her greatest professional accomplishments. Capt. Walton-Russell is known for practicing what she teaches, integrating her research, advocacy, and personal experiences into her work. In the classroom, she demonstrated humility and integrity – values instilled at an early age – to show her students how to navigate the system ethically, even in challenging moments. Her goal was to inspire them to excel. She maintained high standards, held them accountable, and genuinely cared for their success. Prior to becoming an educator, Capt. WaltonRussell completed 19 years of practical service. She maintained some of these positions while teaching. Since 1996, she has served as a director, consultant and medical social worker at 11 East Texas nursing home facilities. This includes positions as a consultant social worker for area home health agencies and as a social work practitioner and director of social work for Wood Memorial Nursing Home, Hillview Nursing Home and Melrose Nursing Home. Capt. Walton-Russell initially planned to study psychology after her brother endured a nervous breakdown at 25. However, after speaking with a social worker who would later become her mentor, she found that pursuing a master’s
