There were few workplaces, so she applied to the US Button Corporation (now Emsig Manufacturing). Hired to produce shirt buttons, she learned the ins and outs of the processes over the next 15 years, building a solid foundation that would lead to a successful career in manufacturing. Ms. Ewing has spent much of her career with Foster LLC, the medical division of GEON Performance Solutions LLC. The company extrudes and produces customized plastic compound pellets that customers then use for medical devices. She started at Foster in an entry-level position as an extruder operator, gaining valuable experience running various types of extruders. Ms. Ewing possesses a strong drive and passion for her work, both of which have been essential to her success. She also credits her former supervisor, Dan Fleurie, for the significant impact he had on her life. He frequently reminded her that one can discover something new every day in manufacturing, emphasizing the importance of continuous learning. Ms. Ewing has embraced this philosophy, applying it repeatedly throughout her career. Eager to advance, Ms. Ewing took on different roles and operated various machines at Foster. She moved into a senior operator position, assisting the lead operator. When her supervisor had to take a leave of absence, she was asked to step in for him. She did so well that, upon his return, she was moved to a neighboring facility to gain additional experience. Ms. Ewing oversaw operations and learned more about other aspects of the company. When her supervisor retired, she was selected to step in. Today, she is a production manager, a promotion that took her to Foster’s Las Vegas location, where she oversees the production floor and ensures that the schedule, instructions and processes are being followed. Over the years, she has developed expertise in troubleshooting machines, integrating new processes and overseeing day-to-day production.
