As owner and president, Mr. Knapp is focused on solving customer problems. The business distributes cutting tools and MRO (maintenance, repair and operations) supplies, but it is more than a typical box house. Staff members have handson machining experience, enabling them to troubleshoot and resolve issues on-site. Mr. Knapp attributes his success to the skills he developed over more than 20 years as a plant manager at M&S Manufacturing. He has also gained extensive experience working in his home shop, rebuilding engines and running mini-rod-pulling tractors. Much of what he has achieved can be credited to the confidence and adaptability he has gained from tackling projects outside his comfort zone. Running equipment, supervising operations and training employees have given Mr. Knapp a foundation that enables him to educate customers while continuously expanding his own knowledge. Despite his extensive experience, he understands that no single person can master every aspect of the business. Therefore, he leverages relationships with industry representatives and a broad professional network to stay current on emerging tools and techniques and deliver optimal solutions to his customers. Mr. Knapp values both professionalism and helping others. He credits his growth to being involved in the community as a volunteer fireman and County Fair Livestock leader. He is also on the school board and partakes in coaching and tractor pulling. As he looks toward retirement, Mr. Knapp reflects that the most rewarding aspect of his career has been helping customers succeed by making their processes and operations more efficient, enabling them to increase revenue and grow their businesses. He is also proud to give younger generations the tools and guidance they need to succeed. When Scott Knapp joined DMC Associates in 2007 as a salesperson, the company had only four employees. However, under his leadership, it has grown consistently every year, even during the COVID-19 pandemic. Mr. Knapp’s deliberate, measured approach to expansion has helped the business maintain balance and stability, an achievement he is especially proud of as he marks more than four decades in his profession.
