82 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine HOSPITALITY AND LEISURE camaraderie; “Where good people meet to eat” is on the diner’s outdoor sign. Mr. Evans and the diner have also won many awards, including Philadelphia Magazine’s “Best Diner of 2026” and the Philadelphia Inquirer’s “76 Award,” recognizing the area’s 76 most vital restaurants. Mr. Evans has also partnered with several organizations, including Progeria, the aging disease, and the turkey drop, contributing 200 turkeys to a local radio station for the area's working poor. His partner, Trisha Harder, has also been at the diner for 49 years; he notes, “behind a good man is the love of a good woman.” Together, Mr. Evans and Trisha make the diner experience a memorable one for their customers. As he looks toward the future, Mr. Evans is planning his retirement and seeking a buyer for the restaurant. He wants to ensure that Bob’s Diner remains active, as it has been an iconic part of the neighborhood for nearly 80 years. Jim Evans’ experiences with food began early in his life, when he made breakfast for his family at 11 years old. Sunday morning breakfasts became a tradition, yet cooking remained a hobby for much of his life. Professionally, he worked for various retailers. Things changed when the opportunity to purchase a local restaurant, Bob’s Diner, arose. Intrigued by the idea, Mr. Evans surprised himself by deciding to buy it, and he officially took ownership on February 1, 1993. He has run the restaurant ever since. Over 33 years, Mr. Evans has built a loyal clientele through excellent and consistent customer service. He attributes his success to hard work and a willingness to get his hands dirty. This has shaped his work ethic throughout his life. Mr. Evans’ most notable achievement was his decision to make his restaurant smoke-free in 1999, long before it became a widespread initiative, to protect his health and that of his employees. He hopes to be remembered for creating an inviting atmosphere where everyone feels welcome to enjoy good food and JIM EVANS OWNER Bob’s Diner Philadelphia, PA
