102 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine EDUCATION Drawing upon more than 35 years of eminent experience in immunology and academia, Dr. Andras Kalman Szakal has been recognized as a professor emeritus of Virginia Commonwealth University since 2005. Formerly serving the university as a professor within the Department of Anatomy and Neurobiology from 1991 to 2005, he was also an associate professor between 1979 and 1991. Prior to entering academia, Dr. Szakal was a principal scientist for Meloy Laboratories and a research biologist for immunology of the carcinogenesis group at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. Likewise, Dr. Szakal was a consultant for the National Cancer Institute, National Institutes of Health, the NASA Manned Spacecraft Center and Oak Ridge National Laboratory, in which he consulted on electron microscope autoradiography. He is most notable for the discovery of follicular dendritic cells (FDCs) as they relate to aging and their function as antigen transports. Dr. Szakal is supported by a BA and MA in zoology, both from the University of Colorado, as well as a PhD from the University of Tennessee. Notably, he has earned several grants from the National Institutes of Health and National Institute of Aging for his pioneering research. Millennium Magazine Featured Listee PROFESSOR EMERITUS Virginia Commonwealth University Midlothian, VA Supported by a BA from Yale University from 1947, and an MA and PhD from the University of Virginia from 1949 and 1957, respectively, Dr. George W. Williams was employed by Duke University following his receipt of his doctorate degree as an assistant professor of English. Serving in this role for six years, he was promoted to associate professor in 1963 and full professor in 1967. Specializing in the criticism and discussion of Shakespearean literature, Dr. Williams concurrently served as chairman of the Department of English from 1982 to 1986. He attained emeritus status in 1993. Throughout his career, Dr. Williams served as an associate general editor of “Arden Shakespeare” from 1996 to 2019, and was a contributing editor of the “Dramatic Works of Beaumont and Fletcher” from 1966 to 1996. Authoring myriad books of his own, including adult non-fiction and children’s books, he recently compiled a collection of essays on William Shakespeare in 2019. Although his career is abound with great highlights, he is especially proud of receiving the John Fisher Award from the Modern Language Association in 2001, for whom he served as president from 1980 to 1981.
